Common Raccoon

Family: Procyonidae

Size: It measures approximately 65 to 95 cm.

Longevity: It can live from 2 to 3 years.

Habitat: It lives in forests, streams, swamps, urban parks and in suburbs.

Food: The common raccoon is omnivorous, but it can also be carnivorous, as it eats crayfish, insects, rodents, frogs, fish and bird eggs. However, it consumes more invertebrates than vertebrates.

Did you know that the Common Raccon gets its name from the popular belief that it washes its food before eating it? In reality, it often eats aquatic animals and kneads its food in its hands before eating, which gives the impression that it is cleaning it.
